Dillard High mathematics teacher, Estelle Pinkett, known as an educator, motivator and disciplinarian. Pinkett was also a Sunday school teacher at Mount Olive Baptist Church. If you misbehaved at church she would get with you in school on Monday. Says James Bradley Junior the oral historian at old Dillard Museum. HAPPENING TODAY! Come over and CHECK IT OUT September 30th, NSU ART MUSEUM will be hosting LaSirène’s Mirror: Reflections of Sustained Resistance through Art and Vodou lecture from 3-4 pm. Our very own NSU Professors, Dr. Nevins & Dr. Desir, will be giving the lecture which builds on themes from the current exhibition Cosmic Mirrors: Haitian Art Highlights from the Collection. I wanted to invite you and ask how we can promote this event to our larger South Florida community. I would love to have you attend our lecture! One of the doctors speaking, Dr. Desir, is a Mambo and will share valuable in-depth history, context, and culture regarding the Lwa spirits of Haiti, Vodou’s role as a form of colonial resistance, and the traditions of Haitian Artwork across time. I am very excited for this educational opportunity and hope you will be able to join us! I believe the lecture builds on important themes of today’s world and would be an exceptional experiential learning opportunity for every attendee.

“I like to draw stylized drawings or paintings and I liked the fact that we got to learn while doing what I enjoy. This project helped me learn a few things about Dr. Sistrunk and who he was. I like to study history because you get to see what shaped today. Dr. Sistrunk is the first black physician in broward county. He also opened the first hospital for black people. Completed at 4H Monarchs and Brushstrokes For History Summer Camp
